Syracuse Area Health Announces New Physician and Upcoming Provider Transition

Syracuse Area Health is pleased to announce that Dr. William Meier will join its medical staff full time on August 1, 2027, primarily serving patients at Syracuse Family Medicine Clinic while also providing care at Sagewell Family Medicine in Hickman.

The announcement comes as Syracuse Area Health prepares for the departure of Randy Bain, DO, FAAFP, who has submitted his resignation and accepted a new professional opportunity outside of direct patient care. Dr. Bain’s final day with Syracuse Area Health will be December 11, 2026.

“We are grateful to Dr. Bain for his service to Syracuse Area Health and the patients and families he has cared for,” said Lisa Voorhees, CEO of Syracuse Area Health. “We wish him the very best in his next chapter and remain committed to ensuring patients have access to the quality, compassionate care they deserve.”

Patients currently receiving care from Dr. Bain may continue their care with providers within the Syracuse Area Health network. At Syracuse Family Medicine Clinic, patients have access to Dr. Todd Stuckey, Dr. James Steckelberg, Molly Skomer, APRN, and Dana Stark, PA-C. Patients may call 402-269-2411 for assistance with scheduling appointments and transitioning their care.

Looking ahead, Dr. Meier is currently completing his family medicine residency through Creighton University, with his final year of training taking place in Nebraska City. He is expected to complete his residency in June 2027 before officially beginning his practice at Syracuse Area Health on August 1, 2027.

Dr. Meier’s interest in rural medicine began while serving as an emergency medical technician (EMT) in Astoria, Oregon. Through mentorship from local physicians, he discovered a passion for rural healthcare.

“What draws me to rural medicine is the opportunity to build meaningful, lasting relationships with patients and their families,” said Dr. Meier. “I look forward to becoming part of the Syracuse and Hickman communities, partnering with patients in their healthcare journeys, and helping them live healthier lives.”

During his residency, Dr. Meier has gained experience caring for patients in a variety of clinical settings, further strengthening his ability to care for patients of all ages.

“Recruiting physicians who are passionate about rural family medicine is an important investment in the future of our communities,” added Voorhees. “Dr. Meier’s dedication to building relationships with patients makes him an excellent fit for Syracuse Area Health. We look forward to welcoming him and introducing him to our communities.”

This recruitment reflects Syracuse Area Health’s continued commitment to its mission of Compassionate Care, Healthy Communities, and its vision to be the destination healthcare provider for southeast Nebraska.
