Nebraska native Kayla Heidinger, MD, is happy to return to her home state, and particularly excited to join Syracuse Area Health as the healthcare system’s newest family medicine provider. Dr. Heidinger’s passion for both family medicine and rural health started in medical school.
“I’ve wanted to practice rural medicine forever. I really liked how rural doctors got to do everything. You had that trust; it was so rewarding.”
Dr. Heidinger also feels strongly about becoming part of a rural community. “I’m looking forward to getting to know people and serving the community in any way I can,” she said.
As for why she specialized in family practice care, Dr. Heidinger said she solidified the decision during her residency. “I like the variety of family medicine. You get to see kids, adults, babies, and elderly patients,” she said.
“I feel like I can make an impact for a family. Instead of the family having to run around to see different providers, I can be there for all of them.”
Dr. Heidinger also enjoys the comprehensive and relationship-based care approach that a family practice physician has with patients. “You clearly earn someone’s trust when you can see them through every stage of their life,” she said.
While Dr. Heidinger enjoys every facet of family practice medicine, she also brings a women’s health focus to Syracuse Area Health.
Dr. Heidinger graduated from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha and completed her residency at The Mayo Clinic Health System in Wisconsin. She will split her time between the Syracuse and Weeping Water clinics and is currently welcoming new patients.
