The results from your radiology exam will be sent to the ordering provider within 24-48 business hours for most exams. If you haven’t received your results after that time, contact your ordering provider’s office.

ALLERGIES

If you have an allergy to contrast media, please let the technologist know. This may determine what exams can be ordered.

PREGNANCY

If think you may be pregnant, please inform the technologist. Many radiology exams are not performed on patients who may be pregnant due to the exposure of radiation to the fetus. Some exams are safe for mom and baby but may not be performed until after a certain point in the pregnancy.

ALARA

ALARA stands for “as low as reasonably achievable”. ALARA means avoiding exposure to radiation that does not have a direct benefit to you, even if the dose is small. To do this, you can use three basic protective measures in radiation safety: time, distance, and shielding. All technologists at Syracuse Area Health follow the ALARA principle.

IMAGE GENTLY

The mission of the Image Gently Alliance is, through advocacy, to improve safe and effective imaging care of children worldwide. All the radiologic technologists at Syracuse Area Health have pledged to Image Gently. That means that we work hard to provide safe, high-quality imaging for pediatric patients. All services for children in our Radiology Department requiring exposure to radiation follow Image Gently protocols.

IMAGE WISELY

Image Wisely aims to raise awareness and provide up-to-date educational resources for radiology professionals and referring clinicians regarding the safe use of adult medical imaging. Image Wisely is a joint initiative of ACR (American College of Radiology), RSNA (Radiological Society of North America), ASRT (American Society of Radiologic Technologists), and AAPM (American Association of Physicists in Medicine. All the radiologic technologists at Syracuse Area Health have pledged to Image Wisely.
