New Syracuse Area Health Provider Makes a Big Impact on Small Town Care

Molly Skomer, APRN, is a great fit as the newest team member at Syracuse Area Health. Her enthusiasm for working in a small town healthcare organization is evident the moment you ask her about her new role.

“I’m from a small town in western Nebraska. And, it was my goal as a nurse practitioner to get back to a small town in my career.”

Although she’s only been part of the Syracuse Area Health team since the end of April, she’s already making her mark. She splits her time between the family practice clinic and the hospital or emergency room, taking care of patients young and old.

“It’s been so great establishing relationships with patients and getting back to small town values,” she said. “Getting to know everyone has been so fun and rewarding.”

Molly was previously an RN in Trauma ICU in Lincoln before she continued her education to become a nurse practitioner. After that accomplishment, she spent a few months working in family medicine before spending two years working in rheumatology.

“In the field of rheumatology, patients often suffer with pain and swelling in their joints, muscles, tendons and ligaments like you see from arthritis. Working in that area was a great learning experience,” she said, “But I always knew I wanted to work in family practice again so I could offer a variety of care and help manage someone’s total well-being. So when I saw this job opportunity at Syracuse Area Health, I jumped at the chance to apply.”

From her commitment to her patients, to her love of the community, Syracuse Area Health is thrilled to have Molly as part of the family. And it appears the feeling is mutual.

“I’m just really happy to be here and make a positive difference in this community.”
