Syracuse Area Health is excited to welcome Dr. Kayla Heidinger to the healthcare system as a family practice provider. Dr. Heidinger will start later this summer and will split her time serving at both the Syracuse and Weeping Water clinics.
Dr. Heidinger is passionate about family practice and chose to pursue it while in medical school. “I loved every rotation; that’s why I couldn’t choose just one,” she said. Medical rotations provide students the opportunity to work in all areas of medicine helping them decide on whether to pursue a specialized area or choose a broader focus, like a general practitioner or family practice provider. “I loved serving patients of all ages. I feel like can make more of an impact for the entire family, so they don’t need to run around to different providers,” Heidinger continued.
In particular, Dr. Heidinger found the medical rotations in rural areas the most compelling. “I’ve wanted to do rural medicine forever,” she shared, mentioning that she appreciates the varied experiences and opportunities that rural physicians encounter.
A Nebraska native, Dr. Heidinger is eager to return to her home state and excited to join Syracuse Area Health where she said, “My dream of practicing rural medicine will come to fruition.” She is also looking forward to the many ways she will be able to serve her new communities and become part of them.
Dr. Heidinger graduated from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha and is currently completing her residency at the Mayo Clinic Health System in Wisconsin. She will join the Syracuse Area Health team in August 2020 and will be welcoming new patients at that time.
